Stop 1 – Warsaw, Poland – A Cafeteria Meal in an Upscale Mall I’ve frequented cafeterias in the most bizarre places across the world, from department stores, museums and universities to supermarkets, private homes and now this—a high-end mall. Since we eat with our eyes, I’m all for checking out the local offerings in cafeterias (especially when placards describe their contents) so that I can taste a smidgen of this and that. Today’s lunch didn’t fail. After a long study of this hearty Polish fare, I settled on cabbage slaw (Surówka z Białej Kapusty), tomato soup (Zupa Pomidorowa), kasha with eggs and vegetables (Kasza Gryczana) and spatzle (more German than Polish). My colleague finished the Kurczak pieczony po wiejsku (Polish village-style roasted chicken with onion, garlic and smoked bacon). I’m ready for a nap! Do check back for Stop 2 when I kind of dined by the Governor General of Canada.
